During late 2010, the Department of Labour released several draft bills for amending labour laws. These bills proposed to make significant amendments to the Labour Relations, Basic Conditions of Employment and Employment Equity Acts. In addition the government drafted new labour laws in the form of the Employment Services Bill. Since then and during March this year the amendments were adopted by parliament and are still awaiting the president’s signature. In this weeks show we will be focusing on the content of the new amendments to our labour laws and exploring their implications for workers and employers. In part one this week we look at the changes to the Labour Relations Act and the new law, The Employment Services Act.
