During my time in security I often assisted and interacted with individuals with special needs. They are awesome! So full of life and excitement, I always found they had the most fun in life. However, they are statistically the most vulnerable to bullying, and belittlement. Often I had the handle situations where individuals were judging others with disabilities. One time it lead to an arrest. I heard a male verbally abusing an employee in one of the stores. I then saw the male shove the employee. I then stepped in and informed male to leave, he refused, and while doing so began to yell and swear loudly. I then elected to conduct a physical removal, during the removal he began to resist, he was then arrested for assault by trespasser, the employee was even able to have him charged with public disturbance. Fact of the matter is this, we all have a voice, we all have feelings, we all know how its feels to be judged and belittled. Thus, when we see someone else being victimized and treated poorly, we need to speak up! We need to, standing back and being silent is just as harsh as doing the bullying. Stand up, speak up. Always.
