MARK TWAIN AND TEA PARTY REPUBLICANS Tennessee Democratic Party - TopicsExpress

MARK TWAIN AND TEA PARTY REPUBLICANS Tennessee Democratic Party Chairman Roy Herron today issued this statement after the 108th General Assembly adjourned: “Mark Twain said, ‘No mans life, liberty, or property is safe while the legislature is in session.’ This has never been truer than during this 108th General Assembly. “Tea Party Republicans denied working people an increase in the minimum wage, affordable health care, and a cost of living adjustment for our childrens teachers. But the Tea Party Republicans and the states first billionaire governor continued the march toward abolishing the inheritance tax on billionaires. “Thank goodness Democrats stopped the Tea Party Republicans from passing their ‘Starve the Children’ and ‘Steal the Vote’ and ‘Wild West’ legislation that would have denied support to families of children who struggle in school, denied us our right to vote for U.S. Senate nominees, but would not have denied handguns to drug addicts, the mentally ill or criminals awaiting trial. “President Truman denounced the ‘Do Nothing Congress.’ Tennesseans -- and Mark Twain -- would have rested easier if this General Assembly had just done nothing instead of doing harm.”
