During the 3rd quarter of the Garfield Heights City Schools home football game against visiting Collinwood High School, a series of altercations in the stands and on the field, ultimately led to the cancellation of the contest during this inaugural week of the fall high school season. At this time, no one was reported to be injured as a result of the altercation, and local and neighboring safety and security officials arrived immediately on the scene to clear the football field and the stands. Specifically, an incident broke out in the stands and was followed by an altercation between the opposing teams on the field. Because the safety and security of every person who attends co-curricular activities at the Garfield Heights City Schools is of the utmost importance, district officials, game officials and security personnel made the decision to cancel the game instantaneously. Local officials took appropriate actions, and the community can rest assured knowing that those students of the Garfield Heights City Schools who were involved will be swiftly and appropriately dealt with by the district.
