Many of you may know that I really dont celebrate my birthday in - TopicsExpress

Many of you may know that I really dont celebrate my birthday in years when my age doesnt reach a round number. In fact, most years I remove it from my profile for the day and take other steps to minimize the fuss. What you may not know is that I try to observe my birthday by finding ways to make it a happier day for other people. I used to buy breakfast for my co-workers, Ive brought people gifts, and Ive sent Thinking of You cards. As with Christmas, it is much more rewarding to give than to receive. This year Im leaving my birthday visible (Saturday, August 16 -- I know Facebook may not show this for days), in the hope that it may draw more attention to this post. This year I need your help. I want to give one better day to Wendi Iserman and her wife Sheila. Wendi has been a friend of Hughs for longer than anyone else hes not related to. Wendi and Sheila not only will give you the shirts off their backs, but theyre also the ones you would call at three a.m. when your car breaks down at the side of the road a hundred miles from home. Right now, however, theyre the ones who need that loyalty and support from their friends. Wendi is fighting head and neck cancer for the second time. Because its the second time, both the medical options and the resources to deal with them are limited. Wendis employer has been anything but accommodating. She has had multiple tests and biopsies, and is scheduled for surgery at the end of this month. Thats going to be just the beginning of her fight. Their friend has set up a fundraiser at gofundme/bnvfkw If you would have considered buying me a birthday card or a drink, please consider making a donation toward Wendis medical and living expenses instead. Even a few dollars can make a difference for them. If you know Wendi and Sheila and youve already donated or cant afford to, please take a moment to reach out to them and let them know youre thinking of them. Its not that much harder than typing Happy Birthday in the Facebook reminder box, and they need your good wishes much more than I do. And if youre not comfortable with giving money to strangers, please consider making a donation to your chosen charity for research into cancer treatments, cures, or prevention. For Wendi, and all of those who are still fighting. For CJ, Sue, and all those who have lost their battles. Im tired of losing family and friends to cancer. Please help me try to make a difference today.
