During the month of December we are looking at the prophecies concerning Christ in the Old Testament and the fulfillment in the New Testament. Today’s Old Testament prophecy comes from Ps. 102:25 and its fulfillment is in Heb. 1:8-10. Prophecy - In the beginning you laid the foundations of the earth, and the heavens are the work of your hands. Fulfillment - But about the Son he says, “Your throne, O God, will last for ever and ever, and righteousness will be the scepter of your kingdom. You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness; therefore God, your God, has set you above your companions by anointing you with the oil of joy. He also says, “In the beginning, O Lord, you laid the foundations of the earth, and the heavens are the work of your hands. Whoever the Hebrew Christians were, to which the author of the book of Hebrews wrote, they had a problem. Some of them had begun to doubt that Jesus was the Messiah. There were too many negatives, too many things happening in their personal lives. How could Jesus allow what was going on to happen? If he was Savior of the world why weren’t things different? So the author of the book of Hebrews wrote this church a letter and in the first three quarters of this letter he laid out the facts about Christ. And they can be summed up with the statement: “Jesus is better.†His revelation is better than the angels revelation. His ministry is better than Moses’s ministry. His priesthood is better than Aaron’s priesthood. Jesus is better. But if that is true why were and are Christians being persecuted? Why hasn’t God just divinely removed all of the struggle? The last four chapters of the book answer that question. It is for our growth in Christ that we go through the struggles that we do. God allows struggles so that we will grow closer to him. God allows struggles so we will rely on him more. God allows struggles so that we will praise him in front of others. God allows struggles so that we’ll fall on our knees. If you are struggling today know that God is with you all you have to do is rest in him.
