During this journey even when I was young I have tried to recognize and appreciate those moments I know will never come again for what they are. Over the past 20 years with Tracy or the past 14 as a father I try to soak up and enjoy the happy moments and say a prayer of thanks and then grieve a little when those sad moments come. Having said that - today I finished taking down the swing set in the back yard. It is getting rusty and the kids have not played on it for about a year. I put it up one Sunday while the kids were at church with Tracy. It was the 1st spring we were in the house in Shelbyville. Dorothy had wanted one when we lived in Louisville, but the lot was way too small there. We promised her one when we moved to Shelbyville. Charlie was in agreement with Dorothy and Samuel had no opinion, he had just turned one, but always wanted what Charlie had. Samuel had started walking the 1st month we moved in, but was still unsteady. He became upset when he could not climb the ladder for the slide without help. Charlie could - so why couldnt he? One day as I looked out the kitchen window out into the yard there was Samuel climbing up the ladder. I started for the door when he reached the top and giving the Rocky victory stance with both arms above his head, his fists balled up in victory- danced in place and slid down the swing set slide. Mastering what the other two had done with no help. A big smile on his face - triumphing over a hurdle by himself. I am going to miss that swing set just because of that - a good investment in memories. -Lee-
