During this time each year in rural communities of Ethiopia where trachoma is highly prevalent, Orbis and partners conduct a Zithromax (an antibiotic that helps treat and prevent trachoma) distribution. This key activity is usually kicked off with special events dedicated to provide trachoma education and to give communities the opportunity to hear from government officials and community leaders, as well as enjoy music and entertainment from local youth and cultural groups. Orbis proudly supports the fight against trachoma, and helps implement the World Health Organization SAFE strategy – eyelid Surgery, Antibiotics, Face cleanliness and Environmental improvement. Over the next few weeks we will be sharing photos and stories highlighting what goes into these efforts and its effect.
