During this year’s annual Maryland State Fireman’s Association (MSFA) Convention in Ocean City, Maryland; Bel Air Vol Fire Company Past Chief of Department and current Regional Fire Chief for the US Navy Mid-Atlantic, Stephen D Cox was presented the MSFA’s highest individual award. This award known as the Gladhill-Thompson trophy signifies outstanding contribution to the future welfare of the Maryland State Fireman’s Association. He is the sixth recipient from Harford County since the award’s inception in 1974. According to the MSFA the Gladhill-Thompson trophy is awarded on a highly selective basis to an individual who, in the opinion of the judges, has made an outstanding contribution to the future welfare of members of the MSFA or who has distinguished himself or herself by exceptionally meritorious service of major significance to the MSFA or the Fire Service of the United States. Chief Cox was nominated by Fred Cross, Jr. from Chestnut Ridge VFC in Baltimore County. In the nomination letter Cross cited the extensive work Chief Cox has done within the fire service across Maryland as past President of the MSFA, his continued volunteer service to the Bel Air VFC, and his well-known advocacy work in the field of fire service training. It is an honor and privilege for the BAVFC to display the Galdhill-Thompson trophy. Chief Cox’s dedication to the fire service is something that every volunteer should strive to achieve. Congratulations Chief Cox! RG
