Dyer-Lake brought the Patriots to Madonna Manor! We recently arranged an exciting and genuinely meaningful “Meet & Greet” with New England Patriots Devin McCourty for the residents of Madonna Manor nursing home in North Attleboro. To bring even more football excitement to the day, Devin brought along his twin brother, Jason, a cornerback with the Tennessee Titans. Devin, a defensive back and co-captain of the Patriots, took time out of his busy schedule to bring a bit of fun and excitement to the residents of Madonna Manor nursing home in North Attleboro, and a wonderful time was had by all in attendance. Dyer-Lake has long been committed to giving and giving back to our community, and Devin McCourty shares that same philosophy embracing the importance of philanthropy and community involvement. During a conversation one day with Mary-Ellen Murphy, Madonna Manor’s Administrator, Jay Elias, who is General Counsel at Dyer-Lake and the individual primarily responsible for Dyer-Lake’s community involvement efforts, asked her what they could do to brighten the lives of the residents at her facility. When she told him many of the residents were avid Pats fans, he knew what his mission was: to try to bring a part of the Patriots to Madonna Manor. So, with the key assistance of North Attleboro’s Mike Michel of R.S. Gilmore Insurance, and also Ed Hurley of the Hockomock Y, Dyer-Lake arranged a “Meet & Greet” with Number 32, Devin McCourty. Hundreds of residents and staff enjoyed the McCourty brothers’ generosity of spirit as they met one-on-one, signed everything from Patriots caps and jerseys to cell phone cases, knapsacks, countless pieces of paper and cards, and everything in between. In addition, Devin and Jason posed for numerous photos, many with residents in their wheelchairs who were proudly wearing their favorite Patriots sweatshirt or jersey. Consistent with Dyer-Lakes commitment to community involvement and bettering the lives of others, Devins charitable contributions have formally been recognized by the Patriots. In fact, Devin was recently named as the Patriots’ team-nominee for the NFL Walter Payton Man of the Year award, one of 32 NFL players representing the best of the NFL’s commitment to philanthropy and community impact. The award is named for the legendary Chicago Bears running back who died in 1999. The winner will be announced in Arizona, the site of Super Bowl XLIX, during the fourth annual NFL Honors awards show, a two-hour television special which airs on Saturday, January 31, from 9-11 p.m. Since joining the Patriots organization in 2010, McCourty has been one of the most active players in the New England community, regularly volunteering to assist the New England Patriots Charitable Foundation’s many initiatives, volunteering countless hours to help others. McCourty teamed with his brother, Jason, also a nominee for the Payton award, to start a foundation to help fight Sickle Cell, a disease that has affected members of his own family. His dedication to the New England Patriots Charitable Foundation has been remarkable over the years. Devin has served as an advocate for education to middle school students through the team’s “Read Between the Lines” program, encouraging students to surpass their summer reading goals. In addition to the many school visits he has made, he can be found on most Tuesdays throughout the season volunteering and giving back in his local communities. Devin has also made numerous hospital visits, worked at food banks and community shelters, supported the Patriots’ Play 60 and Football for You events throughout New England and can be counted on regularly for his contributions to the team, both on and off the field. Devin McCourty was drafted by the Patriots in the first round of the 2010 NFL Draft and has played both cornerback and safety during his career. In 2014, Devin was named a co-captain for the fourth straight year. He was selected to his first Pro Bowl in his first season, becoming the fourth Patriots player to be selected as a rookie. Devin is also one of only three NFL players to have earned the Associated Press All-Pro Second Team honors at safety (2013) and Second Team All-Pro honors as a rookie (2010) when he played cornerback. His seven interceptions in 2010 are the second-most by a Patriots rookie in franchise history and tied for second in the NFL in 2010. All of us at Dyer-Lake are pleased to have been able to arrange this event and would like to publicly thank Devin and his brother Jason. It was clear that they lifted the spirits of many people that day. Devin truly brought an up-close and personal part of the New England Patriots to Madonna Manor!
