" Dylan is the kind of singer/songwriter that is animated by travel. I first met him at a Greyhound station in Asheville. He’d checked his bag but kept his guitar close by on a ten hour plus bus ride. Of course this meant that they’d customarily lost the bag. Taking it in stride he embraced it for what it was: just another day. This kind of spirit doesn’t come easy. You see it in meticulous aims as he practices. Dylan writes deliriously and plays until a song is complete. Seldom sleeping, calloused: the hands shake from constant strumming. He creates musical visualization by using acoustic depth. Most of the time this comes from playing in empty buildings and drainage pipes. He loves these kinds of places. Their remoteness gives him a way to evoke imagery of distance in both memory and mile. The guerrilla style of recording he does helps layer the songs with that distance. Songs like When I was a Child I was lead astray show this with the haze that hangs around his notes. His lyrical timing can catch you off guard. You might think the song is going to build one way by becoming calmer or that the lyrics are going to play out a predictable phrase that you’ve heard in dozens of other songs but when it comes down to it the lyrical diction is unique. Words are paired and pressed together in just such a way that you revel in the familiar becoming unfamiliar. Quite honestly I’m still surprised he hasn’t made it into a “big-time” studio. I guess when he catches exactly what he’s after we’ll see a studio release and tour. If this abbreviated introduction to Dylan doesn’t sell you on his work you’ll just have to have a listen anyway."
