E-NUGGETS: Gossip - Extended... Do not pass along false reports. Do not cooperate with evil people by telling lies on the witness stand. (Exodus 23:1) Isnt it amazing that the only time we dislike gossip is when the gossip is about us - Funny huh? If we feel this way about others tale bearing on us, can you imagine how those that are at the receiving ends of our slanders feels? Our Christian responsibility places demand on us to not encourage gossipers or tales we cannot substantiate or do anything about! Ask the bearer of the tale if they would be happy for you to share or talk with the person being laid on the sacrificial altar before you. If the answer is No! Then there is no biblical ground for them to have shared with you and for you to have condoned it! Be mindful of those that drops baiting information you dint ask for or necessary within the context of your conversation! They are trouble makers always phishing or looking to drop someone in! The best way is to either ignore or reprimand such. We are not to take allegation against someone without investigating to establish the truth - well thats if we are not a conduit for gossip ourselves! Paul in His letter to deal with idle tale bearers wrote to the Thessalonians: We hear that some of you are living idle lives, refusing to work and wasting time meddling in other people’s business. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, we appeal to such people-no, we command them: Settle down and get to work. Earn your own living. (2 Thessalonians 3:11-12). This simply tells me that those without a life, those that are going nowhere would have all the time in the world talking about others! Gossip is vicious. The effects of such can leave a longer lasting damaging effect as those of a stab wound.
