EARTHQUAKE STREET FESTIVAL IS FRIDAY, AUG. 23: Get ready to shake it up — the Earthquake Street Festival happens on Friday, Aug. 23, 5-11 p.m., in Winters on downtown Main Street and East Main Street. The event kicks off with free entertainment and activities at 5 p.m., and a street dance with the Time Bandits from 8-11 p.m. So far, the free entertainment before the dance includes local bands Egg and Bonanza King, and a lively performance from the UC Davis Marching Band-Uh. Food and beverage booths will line Main Street and East Main Street all evening, and there will be booths and activities for the kids on East Main Street all night sponsored by the Winters Combined PTA. This annual event is sponsored by the Winters Chamber of Commerce, and is free of charge. The event is a major fund-raiser for the Chamber, as well as a favorite event amongst the locals, offering plenty of opportunity to chat and socialize. Vendor booths are available for merchants and non-profit groups, and offer a great fundraising opportunity. The Earthquake Street Festival began in April 1992 as a centennial celebration of the rebuilding of the downtown following a devastating earthquake in April 1892. For more information about the festival, to become a sponsor or to sign up for vender booth space, call Chamber executive director Mike Sebastian, 795-2329.
