Wednesday, October 30, 2013, 9:55 AM There will be a small chance for severe thunderstorms in western Arkansas from later this afternoon on through the evening. This will be mainly west of a line from Texarkana to Mountain Home. If severe storms do occur, damaging winds and large hail will be the severe weather threats. Chances for severe weather are greater farther west into Oklahoma. On Thursday, the severe weather threat could end up being more significant, mainly southeast of a line from Mountain Home to Texarkana, during the afternoon. This threat is rather conditional, and that condition is that too many showers and thick cloudiness during the morning and midday hours will cut down on chances for severe weather during the afternoon. However, given that severe storms do manage to develop, damaging winds and isolated tornadoes will be the severe weather threats. Best chances are likely to be in east central and northeast Arkansas. Storms should exit the southeast corner of the state by late afternoon or early evening. Rainfall could well end up being the biggest story. Flash Flood Watches have already been issued for many counties in central, western, and southwestern Arkansas in anticipation of the heavy rain. Most rain amounts will probably fall in the 1 to 3 inch range, with the smallest totals near the northern border. However, there is likely to be a swath of 3 to 6 inch totals in the southwestern quarter of Arkansas. I will issue the next message Thursday morning around 9:45 AM.
