EBOLA HAS NOT REACHED IN ANY OF THE 17 CORRECTIONAL CENTERS OF THE COUNTRY BY SHEKU PUTKA KAMARA – INTERN CORRECTIONAL SERVICE – PR WING The Director of Admin and Support for the Sierra Leone Correctional Service Mr. Joseph Lamboi has said that since the outbreak of the Ebola Virus disease in May 2014, no case has reached in any of the 17 Correctional Centers across the country. He made this statement on Wednesday November 26, 2014, whiles delivering a speech on the presentation of the new Concept Paper for the Sierra Leone Correctional Service. The event which took place at the Service’s headquarters at New England in Freetown was well attended. Mr. Lamboi disclosed that when the Ebola Outbreak started in the country ‘we immediately formed an Ebola task force to see to it that our Correctional Centers inmates remain protected as they are already quarantined.’ The focus of the Presentation of the Concept Paper has to do with the transformation of the Prisons Service to a Correctional Service and how this news dispensation aims at catering for the both the Welfare of the inmates and the Correctional Service Personnel. This was done by the Director General of the Sierra Leone Correctional Service, Mr. Sampha Bilo Kamara. The Public Relations Officer of the Sierra Leone Correctional Service, A.S.P Mohamed Opito Jimmy had in preceding discourses invalidated the claims of positive Ebola cases in the Correctional Centers of the country. He had informed the entire Sierra Leonean citizenry that the Correctional Service house news inmates in isolated cells for 21 days, before they could join the old inmates. Earlier this year when the Ebola Virus Disease broke out in the country, the Sierra Leone Correctional Service cancelled all forms of visit to the Correctional Centers of the country. This was because, the disease is believed to have spread through body contact and so the Correctional Service never wanted to take any chances. The Director of Technical and Industries for the Sierra Leone Correctional Service, Mrs. Cecilia Kai Kai has alerted all and sundry in October this year that ‘one Ebola Case in the Correctional Centers of the Country would be devastating.’ No wonder, the Service took no chances
