ECOWAS members’ states have been gathered for an extraordinary summit in the Ghanaian capital, Accra. They have been discussing ways to effectively address the security crisis in Mali and Nigeria. In Mali, Tuareg separatists have again been clashing with government troops, and winning. In Nigeria the threat from Boko Haram remains top priority. The group is still holding hundreds of schoolgirls kidnapped nearly two months ago. Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama says all necessary measures need to be used to prevent instability in one country affecting the entire region.
