EDGAR LUNGU EXPECTED TO WIN PRESIDENTIAL RACE LUSAKA - Patriotic Front (PF) President Edgar Chagwa Lungu is expected to win the hotly contested presidential by-election. By Thursday 22nd January, 2015, Justice Irene Mambilima, Chairperson of the Independent Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) had declared 111, out of 150 seats with Lungu leading with 670,397 (48.87%) against his closest rival, United Party for National Development (UPND) leader Hakainde Hichilema who has so far scored 641,343 (46.75%). Below are the 39 seats remaining: 1. Central Province – 5 seats -Chitambo, Muchinga, Serenje, Mukushi South Kapiri Mposhi and Keembe constituencies. 2. Copperbelt- 1 seat – Mpongwe 3. Eastern Province -7 – Chama South, Feira, Kapoche, Lumezi, Petauke Central, Msanzala and Nyimba 4. Lusaka – 1-Rufunsa 5. Luapula-1- Chembe 6. Northern Province-7- Chilubi, Chinsali, Kanchibiya, Isoka East (Mafinga), Malole, Lupososhi and Mfuwe 7. Northwestern – 6 - Chavuma, Mufumbwe, Kabompo East, Kapbompo West, Solwezi East and Zambezi West 8. Southern Province – 1- Katombola 9. Western Province -10 – Kaoma Central, Luena, Lukulu East, Lukulu West, Mangango, Mulobezi, Nalolo, Senanga, Sikongo and Sinjembela To heighten the political temperature, the UPND commissioned countrywide “celebration of the electoral victory” to create an atmosphere that the party had won when in fact not. This is aimed at forcing a post electoral conflict that might result in acts of violence and force upon the country a government of national unity.
