EDGE OF TOMORROW. My Score: 8.75/10. My spoiler-free review. Well, for all you Tom Cruise haters out there, youre not going to like this review. In a nutshell: This was a very good movie. Im not a flag-waving Cruise fan but I have enjoyed his work in the past and like all of you, worship the skill, NOT the person. This si only if you insist on having a grudge on the person which dictates your reason for not watching him work. Stupid, stupid, stupid. EOT showcases Cruises skill to handle end-of-world scenarios. Hes done it a lot. Nonetheless, Tom sees a situation, commands it and wins. This is in no way an admiration of Hollywoods skill in originality. That was lost a long time back. This movie is yet an example of Holly7wood writers skill in repeating the past. The main premise of this flick. In fact, a number of movies come to mind when watching EOT especially GROUNDHOG DAY. Yep, I said it; GROUNDHOG DAY. EOTs saving grace is that its not soley Cruises movie. He has help in the form of the lovely Emily Blunt. Emily holds her own alongside Cruise and kicks butt better than him even after the repeated training sessions. Blunt is blunt and she aint afraid of whos watching. EOT is the typical alien invasion movie with the aliens being all funny lookin with bad breath and steady-cam moves. Scratch out that steady part. Only occasionally do we get a good bead on these dudes and they may remind you of creatures already created by Dumb-wood. EOT runs with a supporting cast of jarheads who provide a bit of both comic and serious relief. One specific character who likes going commando cant seem to stay out of his fate even when TC assists. Oh well, all the focus cant be on TC. EOT was better than I expected when seeing the first trailer. A huge ho-hum emitted from my diaphragm because all I could see was that last Matt Damon movie when I saw TC suited up. I thought it was the old super suit created by a team of scientist that comes to save the day. Glad I was wrong because nothing short of death saves the day here. The suit is just a segue to disaster which comes rapidly and repeatedly. So.........8.75 I said. Why? If I cant predict it, it starts out with an 8. From that point on, subtle touches of good writing or execution takes it a bit further. A .75 percent of it had me at invasion. See it. I dont really give a damn if you didnt like it. Your opinions do not influence mine.......as it should be for yourself and this review. Good job TC. I thought hed be taller.
