EDIT: I posted this at Vegans United. This statement was not directed at people on my newsfeed. I know how much people love to make fun of exit speeches, so feel free to screengrab this and just have yourself a bashfest. Im officially withdrawing from the vegan community. Im leaving all the groups, save for the one that I created. Im no longer going to be focusing on the word vegan. This has nothing to do with my vegan friends, and I appreciate them very much and will still be friends with them. This has nothing to do with the philosophy of veganism, as I will still abstain from eating animals to the best of my ability. As Ive said before, I find it rather liberating that I dont have to fund cruelty and murder of other sentient beings just to sustain myself. What this has to do with is the elitist arrogance of the vegan police, who sit on their imaginary thrones judging all who do not live up to their standards. Compassion towards animals is great, but not at the expense of compassion towards other human beings. Too many vegans take some sort of arrogant pride in harassing and belittling other vegans for their flaws. Absolutely nobody is 100% vegan, no exceptions. Every single one of us has something in our lives that was made at the expense of animals, that we are not willing to give up. Yet if someone is, say, 75% vegan, too often they will take an almost sadistic glee in flaunting their superiority over someone who is 74% vegan. And you want to know whats really sad? How so many vegans will harass and effectively push away people who are trying to be vegan in one breathe, while complaining about how few people are vegans in the next breath. I just cant deal with this anymore. Life is hard enough without supposed friends acting like enemies. So, goodbye. And good luck.
