EDITORIAL LISMORE LICENSING POLICE SPREAD MORE DRIBBLE THIS - TopicsExpress

EDITORIAL LISMORE LICENSING POLICE SPREAD MORE DRIBBLE THIS is the biggest load of dribble I have ever read in my life!!! The only thing that has dropped so far is the reporting rate. A look at emergency department presentations for assault-related injuries will quickly confirm this. With ridiculous disincentives to report assaults, such as the linking program, and police pressuring late night premises to shut down or restrict trade, the overall number of assaults in the CBD may have dropped a little bit when one of the main late night venues closed (twice) and numbers coming into town dwindled but the per capita figure would not have dropped - not even close! In fact, the problem spread to the outer areas such as Goonellabah, the Lakeside Caravan Park and Gundurimba stretching police as they were running from location to location instead of having it all happen in in and around licensed premises. This places members of the public at greater risk with longer response times. Saying the figure has also dropped from 65 violent assaults to just 18 violent assaults intrigues me when I have personally seen four violent assaults just in the last two weeks and licensing police have been linking assaults to a number of venues for years. The way violent is defined definitely needs some closer scrutiny. The report is being very specific about violent assaults in and around licensed premises and we need to look further into how the figures are being manufactured or manipulated. More on this to come.
