EDITORIAL STAFF · EVERYTHING ELSE · PEOPLE & POLITICS These are 5 Presidents Currently Running Nigeria According to Obasanjo Despite the fact that Kashamu Buruji, a close associate of President Goodluck Jonathan, was able to obtain a court order stopping the publication of former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s controversial autobiography, titled “My Watch”, the book was successfully launched at the Lagos Country club Ikeja, Lagos, on Tuesday, December 9, 2014. The event, which was initially scheduled for Thursday, was attended by all and sundry, from the former Vice Chancellor of the University of Lagos, Prof. Ibidapo Obe, to the former Minister of Education, Oby Ezekwesili, among several others. Former president of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo has indicated in the three-volume autobiography that Patience Jonathan, wife of the president, Diezani Alison-Madueke, Petroleum Minister, Stella Oduah, former Aviation Minister and Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Finance Minister are all ‘Presidents’ of Nigeria, thereby making them the most powerful women in Nigeria, he stated that Goodluck Jonathan comes behind as the weakest among them, PM News reports. Chief Obasanjo wrote:“It was the same elder statesman who reportedly tried to jolt the president into action by telling him that there were five presidents in Nigeria, and these were his wife the first lady, Diezani (Alison- Madueke), Stella (Oduah), Ngozi (Okonjo-Iweala) and the president himself, and that he was the weakest of the five. Obasanjo also stated that Jonathan is incapable of governing well because he is selfish and not strong willed, callous and not capable of rising to the challenges facing a complex country like Nigeria. These are the 5 Presidents According to Chief Obasanjo 1. Patience Jonathan: Patience Faka Jonathan is the present First Lady and wife of the President of Nigeria who, she was the permanent secretary in her native Bayelsa State, a position she recently resigned from. She is married to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Goodluck Jonathan 2. Madueke Allison- Diezani: Diezani Alison-Madueke CON was born on 6th December, 1960, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, to the family of His Royal Majesty, late Frederick Abiye and Chief Mrs Beatrice Agama from Bayelsa State Nigeria. She is Nigeria’s Minister of Petroleum.Mrs Diezani Alison-Madueke has held three significant Federal cabinet positions in the government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria since 2007. Namely, Honourable Minister of Transportation in 2007-2008; Honourable Minister of Mines and Steel Development in 2008- 2010; and was appointed Nigeria’s first female Honourable Minister for Petroleum Resources from 2010 until present. Historically, she became and still is the first and only woman to lead a country’s delegation to the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) conference in Vienna, Austria, in 2010. Diezani Alison-Madueke was also the first woman to be awarded an Honourary Doctorate Degree in Management Sciences by the nation’s premier defence college, the Nigerian Defence Academy, Kaduna, on 17 September, 2011. Ealier this year, the minister was at the center of controversy concerning allegations over missing oil proceeds worth $20 billion, raised by Lamido Sanusi, suspended governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria. 3. Stella Oduah: She was the Nigerian Minister of Aviation. She was confirmed to the post and sworn in on July 2, 2011, and was deployed to the Ministry of Aviation on July 4, 2011. Stella was however relieved of her duties as Minister of Aviation on 12 February 2014. She just like Allison is not free from in numerous controversies, some of these controversies ranges from being accused of purchasing BMW bullet- proof cars without following due process as well as allegations that she lied on her CV regarding how she obtained an MBA degree from St Paul’s College. 4. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala: Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala is a globally renowned Nigerian economist best known for her two terms as Finance Minister of Nigeria (a position she still holds till today) and for her work at the World Bank, including several years as one of its Managing Directors (October 2007–July 2011) . She briefly held the position of Foreign Minister of Nigeria in 2006. Okonjo was blamed more than any other public servant for the removal of subsidy.
