EDUCATION FOR WOMEN IS OUR TOP PRIORITY: BALIGHUR REHMAN Islamabad: July 12, 2013 Led by senior representative of Plan International, a prominent Child Rights organisation, a delegation of thirty girls drawn from various schools, met the Minister of State for Education, Training and standards in Higher Education Eng. Muhammad Baligh-ur-Rehman here Friday. In commemoration of Malala Day, the delegation presented the Minister a resolution calling for girls’ right to education, enhanced opportunities and more budgetary allocation. The Minister appreciated the efforts of the girls and said they have highlighted an important cause. He said we are vigorously trying to improve the standards of education in the country and the points raised by the girls in the resolution are in line with our vision and we have already started working on it. He said that Government is trying to increase budgetary allocation up to four percent of the GDP in a gradual manner. Technical and Vocational Education is being linked with the general education. An Action Plan on accelerated M.D.GS and EFA is yet another step we have taken, the Minister said. The action plan has been sent to the provinces and they would come up with their suggestions within a month. The Minister praised the courage of Malala in championing girls’ right to education and said that brave girls like Malala strengthen our resolve. The Minister thanked Plan International for organizing the visit and presented souvenirs to members of the delegation.
