EHREN TOOL - Living a Life of Service In a chaotic year for a much-troubled world, it is a privilege to meet noble and big-hearted people who inspire you to continue to believe in the goodness that human beings are capable of. I was so blessed, and I want to pay my respects here to Ehren Tool for his greatness as a man and an artist. Ehren Tool made possible a war-awareness art exhibit for Muncie, Indiana in the spring of 2014. I contacted Ehren online to ask if he would agree to show his work at a local coffeehouse for artists and intellectuals, and he immediately wrote back to ask if 30 cups would be enough. I found personal inspiration in the ready willingness of a nationally prominent ceramist to assist my humble efforts to bring awareness of the artistic contributions of veterans to my community. PBS featured Ehren Tool this November in the lead segment of the one-hour Craft in America episode dedicated to Service. Ehren has distinguished himself by being socially invested in his calling to make society aware of the impact of war - by producing more than 14,000 cups to be given to prominent leaders around the world, to military service members, or sold to benefit such charities as Wounded Warrior Project and Doctors Without Borders/ Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF). Also, Ehren Tool was chosen by a prominent philanthropic organization, United States Artists, to be a 2010 USA Fellow. Each year, fifty of Americas finest artists in a broad variety of media are granted USA fellowship awards of $50,000 each. The organizations stated mission is to invest in America’s finest artists and illuminate the value of artists to society. In addition, I hope others are also realizing that Ehren is one of the finest people they could ever know. I remember that it was at this very time last year that Ehren sent more than three dozen cups on an expedited basis (at his own expense!), so that my career Navy fiancé - presently my husband - would receive a personalized cup in time for Christmas and our holiday wedding, a cup customized by Ehren with unique decals and photos to signify my husbands service on an aircraft carrier. I wish all the best this holiday season to this extraordinary artist and my friend.
