As an active member of school and ward council she has represented students, parents and community members at school, ward and board (TDSB) level. Over the years she has served as co-chair of the Organization of Parents of Black Children, the Parent Community Network and the Campaign for Public Education. As a representative of these organizations she made deputations to the Toronto Board of Education and the Toronto District School Board and was instrumental in persuading the Board of Education to put in place inclusive and relevant curriculum and policies.
