ELEVEN REASONS FOR STUDYING BIBLE PROPHECY By Fred Trokie 1. PROPHECY REVEALS THE ABSOLUTE SOVEREIGNTY OF GOD Psalms 146:10 The LORD will reign forever, Your God, O Zion, to all generations. Praise the LORD. Isaiah 24:23 Then the moon will be abashed and the sun ashamed, For the LORD of hosts will reign on Mount Zion and in Jerusalem, And His glory will be before His elders. 2. PROPHECY VERIFIES THE BIBLE AS GOD’S ABSOLUTE WORD Isaiah 42:9 Behold, the former things have come to pass, Now I declare new things ; Before they spring forth I proclaim them to you. 3. PROPHECY BRINGS COMFORT/CONSOLATION TO THE CHRISTIAN Titus 2:13 Looking for the blessed hope and the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Christ Jesus.. 1 Thessalonians 5:9-11 9 For God has not destined us for wrath, but for obtaining salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, 10 who died for us, so that whether we are awake or asleep, we will live together with Him. 11 Therefore encourage one another and build up one another, just as you also are doing. 4. PROPHECY PURIFIES THE HOPE/LIFE OF THE BELIEVER I John 3:2-3 2 Beloved, now we are children of God, and it has not appeared as yet what we will be. We know that when He appears, we will be like Him, because we will see Him just as He is. 3 And everyone who has this hope fixed on Him purifies himself, just as He is pure. 1 Peter 4:12-13 12 Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal among you, which comes upon you for your testing, as though some strange thing were happening to you; 13 but to the degree that you share the sufferings of Christ, keep on rejoicing, so that also at the revelation of His glory you may rejoice with exultation. 5. PROPHECY ARMS THE BELIEVER AGAINST FALSE PROPHETS AND TEACHERS 1 Timothy 4:1-2 1 But the Spirit explicitly says that in later times some will fall away from the faith, paying attention to deceitful spirits and doctrines of demons, 2 by means of the hypocrisy of liars seared in their own conscience as with a branding iron. II Peter 2:1 But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will also be false teachers among you, who will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing swift destruction upon themselves. 6. PROPHECY REVEALS GOD’S PROVIDENTIAL PLAN Ephesians 1:9-10 9 He made known to us the mystery of His will, according to His kind intention which He purposed in Him 10 with a view to an administration suitable to the fullness of the times, that is, the summing up of all things in Christ, things in the heavens and things on the earth. In Him. 7. PROPHECY EXPOSES SATAN’S PLAN Isaiah 14:12-14 12 How you have fallen from heaven, O star of the morning, son of the dawn ! PROPHECY REVEALS SATAN’S FINAL DEFEAT Revelation 20:1-2 1 Then I saw an angel coming down from heaven, holding the key of the abyss and a great chain in his hand. 2 And he laid hold of the dragon, the serpent of old, who is the devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years. Revelation 20:10 And the devil who deceived them was thrown into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are also ; and they will be tormented day and night forever and ever. 9. PROPHECY ELIMINATES IGNORANCE Hebrews 10:25 Not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another; and all the more as you see the day drawing near. 10. PROPHECY STRENGTHENS OUR PATIENCE Isaiah 40:31 Yet those who wait for the LORD Will gain new strength ; They will mount up with wings like eagles, They will run and not get tired, They will walk and not become weary. James 5:7-8 Be patient 7 Therefore be patient, brethren, until the coming of the Lord. The farmer waits for the precious produce of the soil, being patient about it, until it gets the early and late rains. 8 You too be patient ; strengthen your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is near. 11. PROPHECY CONFIRMS GODS VICTORY Revelation 11:15 Then the seventh angel sounded; and there were loud voices in heaven, saying, The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of His Christ; and He will reign forever and ever.
