ELIZABERTH MULOBEKA’S TRIBALISM By Masinga W Khumalo I - TopicsExpress

ELIZABERTH MULOBEKA’S TRIBALISM By Masinga W Khumalo I find it hard to accept Mulobeka’s defence on the tribal sentimentalities she issued at the MMD rally in Kasama. The woman is defending her actions by saying that she heard a song in Southern Province which was denouncing Bembas as being ‘devils.’ She later claims that the youths who did the song were sponsored by UPND and it was playing at a UPND rally. What is very strange is that, Mulobeka has failed to tell Zambians the name of the UPND official(s) who was at the purported rally. Neither has she produced a copy of the song to substantiate her claims. I find Mulobeka’s unsubstantiated allegations to be extremely unfortunate and meant to unsettle HH’s growing popularity. Mulobeka’s allegations were done out of tribal hate and envy for HH. As things stand, Mulobeka is just a tribalist who doesn’t want to see a Tonga becoming president. Her so called Tonga best friend should distance herself from her. Also her sons in law should be very careful with their mother in law who seems so determined to cause tribal divisions. It is not acceptable to have a friend or relative (in marriage) who feels that your tribe is not good enough to rule the country. If at all the song really existed, why should Mulobeka attach it to the UPND when it was just done by ordinary youths (who might or might not be from Southern Province)? In the recent past, there were songs which were quiet offensive to Southerners but Southerners never attached it to PF, MMD or any tribal grouping. I remember one of the songs was titled ‘wajata ng’ombe.’ We also heard slanderous statements from Miles Sampa against the Tongas but Tongas have put that behind them. The Tongas in UPND have never used the statement by Miles Sampa as a campaign tool. Tongas have always co-exited with other tribes. Actually we have more Bembas living and doing business in Southern province than vice versa. It is unfortunate that Mulobeka wants to create unnecessary tribal divisions over a mere song. In conclusion, I wish to state that if these prophets of tribalism succeed to stop HH from ascending to the presidency, then this country will never be the same again. The issue of tribalism in politics will come out more and God knows where that will lead us. It is an undisputed fact that HH’s qualities cannot be matched by any of his current opponents. Sata’s victory over HH was easily accepted because the former was very experienced in government. HH has been in politics longer than his main contender. HH is a successful entrepreneur and a well-known economic manager. I cannot say the same about the PF candidate; his background is in public domain and people are free to judge.
