EMAIL FROM MEMBER RE: CHILD ABUSING THE FOSTER CARE SYSTEM: Hi, to cut it short I have a 16 yr old who went into a voluntary foster placement because she kept kicking off over boundaries at home & kept running away refusing to come home. It was agreed that she would stay there until we were able to fix the problems at home as it was affecting all of us quite badly. She was ill treated in the foster home which resulted in her coming home until a different placement was found. Since shes been back at home shes been the happiest I have ever seen her & our home finally feels like home again now shes back where shes always belonged, yet she is still adamant that she wants to go back into foster care. It just doesnt make sense why shed want to be in a foster placement when shes happy at home? I truly believe its purely because of the money they give her (shes always showing us everything shes been bought) Shes also openly stated that she wants to live in foster care by her friends (she doesnt have many friends here) I feel that she is abusing the foster system & Im not sure what to do? Foster care should be for children who are at risk, not kids who have a loving family & want them to stay at home (with some support to help with her outbursts etc) Since shes been back shes always asking me for money, which I am giving her to encourage her to stay at home but I know that this is wrong, I just want her to stay in her home. I feel like Im backed into a corner to compete with the financial privileges she gets while in foster care :( I have asked the social services manager whether they can refuse to give her another placement, he said he will raise this in a meeting but then we are at risk of her kicking off again, what do I do? Please dont judge me, Im so heartbroken that shed prefer to be in a foster home than with her family where she is so loved
