EMPIRE, Mich. (AP) -- The National Park Service wants to protect the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lake Shore from beech bark disease. They are asking for the publics input on a hazard tree management plan. Comments will be accepted until February 15th. The plan is just in the beginning phases, and would need to pass an environmental assessment. Ash trees along the dunes are also being threatened by emerald ash borer, an invasive beetle. The park service is also concerned that another tree disease reported in Benzie County called oak wilt will make its way to the dunes. If you want to comment on the management plan, follow our link.
