EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES Adaptive Technology Youth Interns (5 Full-time Positions – target locations include Grand Falls-Windsor, Gander, Corner Brook, Stephenville, Happy Valley-Goose Bay, and St. John’s) The Independent Living Resource Centre (ILRC) is seeking qualified candidates for 5 full-time Adaptive Technology Youth Intern positions throughout the province. Job ID: AT-YI # 510638 Hours of Work: 35 hours/week (full-time) – temporary until the end of March Salary: $12.00 per hour Start Date: November 25, 2013 Eligibility Requirements: As per Industry Canadas Career Focus Stream eligibility requirements, candidates must be: • Between the age of 15 to 30, a Canadian citizen, or a permanent resident and legally entitled to work in Canada. • A student currently enrolled in a post-secondary institution, such as colleges, universities, schools of technology; or a youth who has completed at least one university/post secondary course • Cannot be in receipt of Employment Insurance (EI) Benefits Responsibilities: • Each Intern will be assigned to a specific project, such as: article and newsletter writing, technology research, webinar hosting, liaising with schools/organizations or online career development resources research. • Promote inclusion and accessibility for all people through technology • Increase public awareness of adaptive technology • Develop and present educational seminars and webinars on adaptive technology; • Support individuals to access and learn about Internet, computer applications and adaptive software/hardware; • Provide a variety of services and workshops to consumers in designated areas; • Assist consumers in developing individual technical skills; • Complete and submit reports as required • Conduct research regarding inclusive technology • Employ social networking in the promotion of adaptive technology Qualifications: The ideal candidate will: • Meet the age, education, and EI Status requirements listed above; • Have an understanding of Independent Living principles and disability related issues; • Have some experience supporting others in technical skill development; • Have a willingness to learn more about adaptive technology and have a working knowledge of software packages such as MS Office, Internet and email programs; • Have skills in using the Internet for research and communication purposes; • Have strong skills in hosting presentations and interacting with groups; • Have an ability to work independently with minimal supervision and within a team approach; • Have an ability to be a self-starter • Experience with Blackboard online conferencing software an asset, but not required.
