EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY: Job Title: Program Assistant Department Name: Science Initiative Group (SIG) Supervisor: Executive Director, SIG Overview: Program and administrative support for the Carnegie-IAS Regional Initiative in Science and Education (RISE) and potentially other SIG projects. RISE comprises five university-based networks in Africa for training of PhD- and Masters-level scientists and engineers. Position is funded through 2016.(See sig.ias.edu/rise for more information about RISE.) Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities: · Serve as primary liaison with RISE students and graduates in Africa. · Assist in communications with RISE network leaders and administrators. · Maintain SIG website and Twitter account; write and post news items and updates. Handle RISE/SIG publicity and cultivate relationships with media outlets. · Research funding opportunities for RISE networks, students & graduates; track grant applications. · Assist in researching, writing and editing grant proposals, reports, brochures and other materials. · Provide administrative support for SIG Chairman and Executive Director, including travel and meeting arrangements and expense reimbursements. · Participate in meetings (possibly including annual meetings in Africa) and conference calls; take minutes as required. Minimum and Preferred Qualifications: Requirements · Bachelor’s degree plus strong organizational and office/computer skills. · Excellent writing/editing and communication skills. (Writing sample will be requested.) · Social media skills (website maintenance, blogging, Twitter, HootSuite, etc.). · Creativity and flexibility. As part of a small team, the Program Assistant will have an opportunity to contribute to all aspects of RISE and help shape its future. Preferences · Background in science or engineering. · Familiarity with higher education in the developing world, especially Africa. · Familiarity with U.S. and international foundations, NGO’s, multilateral agencies, and related organizations. · Experience with development and fundraising. · Knowledge of program monitoring and evaluation. · Ability to communicate in French.
