EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY: My familys commercial painting business is looking for a junior Estimator. An Estimator downloads blueprints on to the computer and then uses a program to take-off all the different measurements and what not that go into determining how much to bid for a project. From there, they enter these numbers into a spreadsheet to come up with the price. Its a job in which the skillset needed to be able to do it is broad, and the specific skills pretty much have to be taught. So, were looking for motivated, intuitive people. You need to be able to use Excel and have pretty general computer proficiency. The software we use to estimate jobs is called Planswift and its easy to learn the basics. We dont even use most of the more advanced capabilities. The thing about blueprints is that theyre made by the dumbest group of smart people in the world: architects. And architects wouldnt know efficiency if it walked up and slapped them in the face. So, an estimator needs to be intuitive more than anything. Like Sherlock Holmes, youll pour through plans looking for the info you need. It can actually be a little fun, especially once you get to a place where you know what youre looking for. Easy to learn and generally fun to do. Its like coloring most of the time. Seriously. Anyway, if you know anyone that might be interested, hit me up.
