ENCLOSED HABITAT: One of the first things to do is to decide where to place a habitat. A butterflys strongest instinct is to go to light. If it is in shade with one bright side, theyll go to that side and sit. The habitat should be, if possible, equally lit on all sides. Artificial light is no match for the sun. If you must have your habitat in a place that is super bright on one side, you can compensate to a certain degree by adding SHADE to the bright side instead of adding light to the dark side. But first, the location should be in a sunny location. Too much shade and they will not fly. Too bright on one side and they will go to the light side and they often wont go backward to the habitat again. They should have at LEAST 6 hours of full sunlight if you want them to eat, pair, and lay eggs.
