ENTER HISTORY! Big State first opened in 1948 & now a new day is coming to downtown Irving & it will arrive at 6am tomorrow, (Monday) morning. Susan & I are proud to announce that Big State Fountain Grill is finally ready open our doors to the fine people of Irving, Texas & beyond! This process of rebuilding & restoring Big State has been a labor of love. Susan & I have met many, many people that love Big State as much as we do! We are very proud of the changes we made & we think yall will like them too. We said good-bye to the band-aids & dental floss & pukey green wore out carpet & hello to a cleaner, more open soda fountain with more than double the seating capacity! Weve added Snow Cones & several different blends of Coffee. We also have a nice gift shop & a large selection of candy like the kind we had when we were kids. We brought in a Wurlitzer Juke Box filled with Buddy Holly, Jerry Lee Lewis, Chuck Berry, Elvis, Hank Sr & other 1950s favorites. We will have a Hot Rod/Classic Car Cruise In EVERY Saturday night from 6-9pm. We paved (concrete) the south parking lot & added more parking behind the building. We have lots of historic old photos showing Irving in days gone by. We restored Big State to a feel of the 1950s. We have expanded our hours & added selections to our menu that we hope youll love. Our hours of operation will be 6am - 9pm, EVERYDAY, 8 days a week. You will see the familiar faces of our lovely Sheryl & Chef Leland & they have been a God send & we are VERY happy to have them on our team! You will also love my GM - Kenny, our daughter Chelsey as well as my wife Susan. I will also be spending a lot of time at Big State. We hired 24 NEW employees & 20 of them are Irving residents & we are VERY PROUD of that! There will be a learning curve, but well get it figured out PDQ! None of this would have been possible without our good friends Dan & Elaine Niemeier. Also, the City of Irving & the Heritage Society have been a huge help to us.
