ENTREPRENEURSHIP WORKSHOP We have come to live with these inescapable facts in the Niger Delta Region: Our Communities are getting more and more disintegrated because of oil politics while out natural environment inches closer to environmental holocaust. The MNCs are not carrying out their Corporate Social Responsibilities to our expectation. Every year, graduates are turned out of our tertiary institutions, yet the prospects of securing paid employment are diminishing. A huge number of graduates are victims of “skilled incompetence”. Our educational system is bereft of techno-vocational orientation. Most youths look up to government alone for job creation but there are massive opportunities for self-employment through creativity, innovation and entrepreneurialism. Ostensibly, because of the pervading sense of anomie, more youths are embracing cultism, criminality, drug addiction and deviant tendencies. The popularization of the Social Media has even worsened the unedifying trend. Societal values deficit now results in total breakdown of family bonds, and the mad rush for allocatable resources has precipitated intra and inter- communal conflicts, some of them bloody with spillover effects on generations to come. Youth enterprise, creativity and innovation are evaporating like the morning cloud. In their place, frustration, hopelessness and criminality are on the rise; crime is fast becoming the norm, hostility has become a common denominator that defines the day to day living of youths in our clime. Things are indeed falling apart and no one is safe. We cannot watch society tow the path of slippery slope of failure and total collapse. Government is doing her best within the limits of available resources but the Organized Private Sector, Non-Governmental Organizations, Community Based Organizations and other stakeholders must come to the rescue. Accordingly, the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor of Bayelsa State on Research & Social Media in conjunction with the office of the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Bayelsa State are organizing a one-day workshop on August 29th 2013, as part of its contributions to encourage entrepreneurship, creativity and enterprise among the Youths of Bayelsa State.
