ERNIE!!!!! Thanks to foster moms reassurance and love he was a superstar at his cardio appt today even though he was scared! The report from his appointment was as good as it can be for being as bad as it is. He has moderate degenerative vascular disease and a moderate mitral valve regurgitation as the source of his heart murmur. Mild tricyclic valve regurgitation also causingnheart murmur.flail tip of the anterior mitral valve leaflet -ruptured c hordae tensioner, moderatebsecondary leftbatrialnchamber dilation and borderline eccentric left ventricular contractibility. What that means is his heart is bad but he candle, although with extreme caution, anesthesia. They dont recommend him going under more than once unless necessary but also dont recommend him being under too long to take care of everything everything we need to (eye dental and neuter) because that is just as risky if not riskier than going under more than once. They could not really give us a recommendation on how to handle this as we need to discuss with the regular ve and his eye specialist to see if we can save the eye or if he will need surgery for it. When he does undergo anesthesia he needs to be monitored very carefully during the surgery immediately following the surgery and then in short time intervals throughout the next 24hrs by a vet because his vitals will need to be taken each time. The cardiologist has put him on heart meds and foster mom has to monitor him forbthe next two weeks to ensuring is adjusting to the medication okay. No surgeries can be performed during this time which works out well coincidentally for it since the earliest his eye specialist can see him is the 21st...although we have asked to be bumped up if there is a cancellation. These are medications he will need to be on for the rest of his life but he can still walk play etc and do everything he loves to do we just have to be mindful of coughing, lethargy, his energy levels etc. And to top it off the cardiologist thought she felt a hernia when performing his exam. She couldnt say for sure and said we would need our vet to double check but it is a good possibility... can this guy catch a break?? Yep!! He is with an amazing foster family and isbhaving a fun loving time in a warm home tonight... not out on the streets neglected cold and afraid! We LOVE THIS FACE OF OPTIMISM AND PURE JOY!!! EVERYONE THAT MEETS HIM DOES! His cardiologist appt cost us $535.50 today(yay,we got a rescue discount!) and as you can see we have more to do for him! The appt today had to be paid in full at time of appt. Please consider donating to ERNIES Care! Donations can be made to rescuedbybullies@gmail via paypal or by calling TOWSON VET, his primary care doc, @410 825 8880. Please specify for ERNIE!! THANKS IN ADVANCE!!
