***ESSENTIAL OF GRANT WRITING*** Listed below is a link a resource that gives you as detailed a directives on the things to keep in mind when writing a grant. The things I emphasis to people when I am requesting information is to #1 Not make it personal #2 include ONLY information that has to do with your project as it related to you funding request. The MAIN ideas and concepts that you MUST have SPECIFIC ideas on is the following: * Keep in mind, when you are starting a non profit you are building a COMMUNITY that is put in place to help another COMMUNITY of people. BUILD your community and by doing this you would create a chart of all the things you want within your community. Like a tree with branches. When preparing your grant submission thoughts(putting ideas on paper), even if you are hiring me(grant writer), you will still need to put them in a conceptual format. Ask yourself, that if it were your money and you wanted to give it to someone to help a cause, what would you want to know. Also keep in mind. Be specific, direct and to the point...they dont care that your dog Fifo was run over by the trash man and thats why you starting your Save Fifo foundation. They dont care. They do however want to know how does your community benefit the cause collectively and in the long term. Anyway, sorry this is so long..:) **UNDERSTANDING THE BASIC OF VISION, MISSION, GOALS AND OBJECTIVES** - VISION - a vision of any organization is how the stakeholders see (envision) their future and their desired overarching long-term goal. It is an ‘inspirational/aspirational’ image of the future that an organization is aiming to achieve, the framework for all strategic planning. -MISSION - a mission statement is a brief description of an organization’s fundamental purpose; it answers the question, “Why do we exist?” It defines the core purpose of existence of the organization. The mission statement articulates an organization’s purpose both for those in the organization and for the public. -GOALS- are broad, general statements that identify the overall main purpose of a program/project; a goal is the statement of the ultimate result of the change being sought or the outcome desired. -OBJECTIVES - are clear, concise, specific, measurable, manageable, achievable, realistic, time-bound statements that stepping stones to achieving goals and are tied to the statement of need. Objectives do not describe methods. Objectives are SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, Time-Bound). --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- msucommunityresources.org/essentials.html
