ETHICS BODY YET TO FIND EVIDENCE OF IRREGULARITY IN POLICE RECRUITMENT EXERCISE : The Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission is yet to make any arrests in connection to the flawed Police recruitment exercise conducted on July 14 which the ethics body described as a “logistical nightmare”. The EACC added that the recruitment of the 6000 Administration police and 4000 regular police which was marred by allegations of bribery, corruption and nepotism, should have been conducted over a period no less than a week in order to be credible. The commission however said that a report will be released on Friday as a result of investigations that it has been carrying out. Even as the commission prepares to release its report, the National Police Service Commission is set to release its own report on the process later on today Thursday after having received submissions from parties on any irregularities that occurred during the recruitment process. Commission chairman Johnstone Kavuludi had initially said that the process will be nullified if it emerges that there were irregularities. Kavuludi added that over 629 reports of malpractice had been made over the two-week period that the NPSC was receiving complaints. The parliamentary committee on security which is currently hearing submissions from the Independent Police Oversight Authority has also been investigating the exercise and has called for the delayed admission of the recruits, pending the findings of the committee. The parliamentary group chaired by Asman Kamama has however pointed an accusing finger on the EACC saying the ethics commission should resign for not finding the flaws in the recruitment exercise.
