EThekwini Municipality. SMMEs play a crucial role in the economy of Africa. The idea behind the Awards is to identify and recognize the best performing SMMEs. The Award ceremony showcases the success of women owned enterprises in various categories and industries. The Awards ceremony will take place on the 14 August 2013. eThekwini Municipality recognise and acknowledge the important role that SMMEs play in the local economy. As part of this initiative The Business Support, Tourism and Markets Unit (BSTMU) has initiated a “Women Empowerment Programme” which will raise the profile of women in business and also strive to address the needs of “women in business”. 2. ENTRY CATEGORIES: CATEGORY DESRIPTION Micro/Emerging Company The company must have an annual turnover that is between R100 000.00 to R500 000.00 Small/Medium Company The company must have an annual turnover that is between R500 000.00 to R5 000 000.00 Cooperative The cooperative must be owned by more than five people and demonstrate viability and sustainability. Youth Owned Innovative Enterprise The company must be able to demonstrate the ability to adapt and develop products through innovation and the owner must be 30 or under. (please submit proof of age) Entrants are welcome to enter for ONLY ONE of the four categories. 3. CRITERIA FOR ENTERING: • Must be operational in the City of Durban, KwaZulu Natal. • Must be formally registered with the Municipality and have been existing for two years or more. • Must be 90% women owned. • Demonstrate Innovation. • Demonstrate Job Creation. • Demonstrate tangible improvements in the transformation of their organization. • Not be a branch with another business. 4. WHO IS INELIGIBLE TO ENTER? • A franchisee or franchisor • Not for profit organization • Majority Government funded or a Government agency or NGO/Donor funded • Part of a group with significant buying power • Previous winners are not allowed to enter and can only do so after 3 years. 5. Entry Procedure: • The entry form must be completed in full and approved by a designated authority within the organization. • Entrants must be operational within the City of Durban. • Incomplete entry forms will result in the disqualification. • All entries must be received by 14h00 on the 19th of July 2013. • The document should be completed in MS Word. • All finalists will be invited to the Gala Awards Dinner on the 14 of August 2013. JUDGES • Submissions will be judged by a panel of SMME experts drawn from the public, government and private sectors, who will seek demonstrated quality, innovative techniques and strategic practice, amongst other qualities, in all submission. • Judges will mark submissions using a numeric method, and reserve the right not to award a winner in any category if they do not find entries that reach the desired standard. • Judges may, at their discretion call for additional information to be furnished • Short listed and potential finalist will be visited by members of the adjudication team. • All finalists will be verified by Deloitte. • The decision of judges is final and no correspondence will be entered into. 7. PLEASE ATTACH: • Company Profile. • Proof of Registration and Proof of ownership. • Valid Tax Clearance Certificate. • Letter of Good Standing if available. • Proof of Profitability (Should supply financial statements for 2011 and 2012 or latest audited financials or management accounts). • Two page Motivation and proof of how you meet the minimum criteria and three contactable company references. • Letters of appreciation. • Close out reports if available. 8.
