EVEN IN DARKNESS THE LIGHT SHINES By Lakan Mariano Even in darkness light dawns for the upright... Surely the righteous will never be shaken... They will have no fear of bad news; their hearts are steadfast, trusting in the LORD. Psalm 112:4, 6-7 If Jesus Christ is your life, if His Word is your foundation, there is no storm so vicious that will dislodge you from His protective and loving care. Bad news may startle you but they will never subvert the peace and confidence in your heart that stands firmly on Gods promises. The threatening grip of utter darkness is no match for the glorious light of Christs presence. We hang on to Gods promise that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose (Romans 8:28). Believers can hang on to this promise because those whom He foreknew He also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that his Son would be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. And those He predestined, He also called; and those He called, He also justified; and those He justified, He also glorified (Romans 8:29-30). The believers life and future is signed, sealed, and delivered. So we do not let our troubles, our hardships, our broken past, our emotions define us. We look to Christ. We stand on His Word. So in the midst of the storms of life we can sing: Though the cherry trees don’t blossom and the strawberries don’t ripen, Though the apples are worm-eaten and the wheat fields stunted, Though the sheep pens are sheepless and the cattle barns empty, I’m singing joyful praise to God. I’m turning cartwheels of joy to my Savior God. Counting on God’s Rule to prevail, I take heart and gain strength. I run like a deer. I feel like I’m king of the mountain! (Habakkuk 3:17-19, MSG).
