**EVENT 102 REPORT Paul Birdsall of Congleton Harriers*** Bailey keeps out in front No sooner was black Friday over there was another lightning Sale that caught everybody’s attention. James Bailey of Sale Harriers, finished first in 15:36 just 16 seconds outside the course record, in only his fourth parkrun and first time at Astbury Mere. Along with James 153 others people took part in the 102nd running of the Congleton parkrun at Astbury Mere on Saturday. This means the facebook Congleton parkrun ‘Golden Bear’ guess the number of runners competition was won by Helen Clark with her guess of 156 – well done Helen! James was one of 22 first timers at Congleton parkrun including our first female finisher Anne JOHNSON of Stainland Lions RC we hope you all enjoyed the experience and you keep coming back. The top three men were James BAILEY of Sale Harriers, Manchester in 15:36, second was James AINSWORTH of Vale Royal in 17:57 and third was Macclesfield Harrier Robert HASLER finishing in 18:14. Well done to James on his new PB and breaking through 18 minutes. Anne JOHNSON of Stainland Lions RC was the first lady of Congleton finishing in a time of 19:46 followed closely by Heather CARTER of Sandbach Striders in 19:55 and third was Lauren ROBINSON of Macclesfield Harriers in 21:20. Thirty eight people would have been very happy to get their results and confirmation of new PBs. Robert RABY dipping under 22 minutes for the first time in 21:56 and Rose CLARKE with her second PB in as many weeks finishing in 31:11. Well done to both of you and the other 36 great effort and a very good way to start your weekend. Sixteen different running clubs were represented on Saturday and it was good to see 9 local Congleton Harriers take part especially, Phil DAWSON and Paul STEEL both making their parkrun debuts and posting very respectable times of 23:29 and 21:03 respectively. Juniors The first Saturday of every month the Congleton Harriers are on hand to help, encourage and pace juniors wanting to take part. Meet them at their flag at 08:45 and they will be happy to help and for non-juniors it’s a good opportunity to find out a bit more about the club and what they do - so come along! Sixteen juniors took part and half of them were either in the JM10 or JW10 category – The future is bright! There were new PBs for Robbie PEAL, Stephanie MOSS and Ben LANE and Samuel, Alfie, William and Thomas all took part for the first time. Fantastic achievement. Volunteers A huge ‘Thank You’ to the 14 volunteers that made the parkrun happen this week and as always we are looking for more so if you haven’t volunteered yet this year – then now is the time to give something back and get your name down! No volunteers – No parkrun! Milestones The 50 club welcomed two new members on Saturday; Katie TAYLOR reached the 50 landmark and Kevin STONE was celebrating with a new PB, his sixth in a row and first time under 26 minutes in 25:55, great running Kevin and Katie On the 20th December we will be 2 years old! We will mark the occasion with fancy dress – so get raiding the back of your closets! Stats Corner Current standing in the Mens annual points competition: Bryan CASEY (Unattached) 3655 pts. David BETTELEY (South Cheshire Harriers) 2873 pts. Frank MANNING (Biddulph RC) 2776 pts. Current standing in the Womens annual points competition: Michelle Louise MATTHEWS (Congleton Harriers & AC) 4118 pts. Jackie Anne MOSS (Congleton Harriers & AC) 3912 pts. Kate HEATHCOCK (Unattached) 3567 pts. The following runners recorded the best Age Grade scores: Anne JOHNSON (VW45-49) was graded 83.81% for the time 19:46 (9th overall) James BAILEY (SM30-34) was graded 83.12% for the time 15:36 (1st overall) Heather CARTER (VW40-44) was graded 77.24% for the time 19:55 (11th overall) Congleton parkrun started on 15th December 2012, and since then 2,613 different runners, including participants from 207 athletics clubs, have completed 13,101 runs covering a total distance of 65,505 km, and there have been 3,236 new Personal Bests. The womens record is held by Olivia WALWYN who ran in a time of 00:16:58 on 2013-02-09 (event number 7). The mens record is held by Chris DAVIES who ran in a time of 00:15:20 on 2013-04-20 (event number 17). The Age Grade course record is held by Victoria Ann PERRY who recorded an 89.86% run (19:53) on 16th November 2013 (event number 47).
