EVERY MEMBER A SOUL WINNER Wendell Winkler The early church, the model church, was composed of members who, though driven from their homes, their cities, and their kin, “went everywhere preaching the word” (Acts 8:1-4). Yet here we sit - who can deny it - in our smugness, contentment, indifference, lukewarmness, complacency, and in our “come-and-get-it” attitude. Though in the eyes of the world the wise man is the skilled diplomat, prudent philosopher, and the astute economist, in the eyes of the Lord, “He that winneth souls is wise” (Proverbs 11:30). “And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars forever and forever” (Daniel 12:3). We need to sing fervently and pray sincerely, “Lead me to some soul today. 0 teach me Lord just what to say. Friends of mine are lost in sin and cannot find the way. Few there are who seem to care; and few there are who pray. Melt my heart and fill my life. Lead me to some soul today.” But you may ask, “How can I win souls?” 1. Set up a Home Bible study and teach it yourself. 2. Set up a Home Bible study and, if you feel incapable, invite a qualified teacher to your home to do the instructing. 3. With an open Bible, teach another the way of the Lord more perfectly. 4. Bring your lost friends and kinsmen to the services. 5. Distribute tracts. 6. Subscribe to religious periodicals for your lost friends. Our field is white (John 4:35). Our prospects are multiplied. Our opportunities are unlimited. Our potential is limitless. We must arise! Someone has written, A church that does not extend to meet opportunities and possibilities is on its way to the cemetery. The members who do nothing are its pallbearers. All who are busy with their own affairs and have no time for the church carry the wreath. The indifferent brother is driving the hearse. Those always holding the church back are throwing flowers on the grave. The brother who is always saying “It can’t be done” is preaching the funeral, and the grumblers are singing the hymns, Thus, the church dies from all cares” Let it be written indelibly upon our hearts, “Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away” (John 15:2). We cannot afford to stand at the Judgment with our hands dripping with the blood of the lost whom we may have reached (Ezekiel 33:7-9). —via Bulletin, 11-13-02, Barnes church, OKC, OK
