Post from member: Hi everyone. My boyfriend had a brain tumor and had surgery a year ago. The tumor was 5cm in diameter located in the center of his brain. The docs went through the right frontal lobe to remove it. Stayed in the hospital for almost 3 months to recover. Had intense rehab to learn how to walk, think, work on cognitive skills and memory. Since then it has affected his personality. One day he is happy and the next hour he is angry. Im almost dealing with his bipolar disorder. His tolerance level is low at times which makes me shut down. He gets cold and distant at times which makes me withdrawal but then he think I dont care about him. I feel like Im walking on a tight rope. Sometimes I feel I cant do right by him and my patience wears thin to the point I just shut down. He doesnt realize that he is pushing people away and he wonders why people are no longer coming around to visit him. I tried to explain to him why people are distant with him but he believes that if they cared about him enough, they wouldnt stop coming around. We are already going to counseling and he is on mood stabilizer meds and anti seizure meds. He thinks Im giving up on him because Im just his girlfriend and I thinks I can bail on him at any time but Im not. I just dont know how to deal with someone who is not present and I feel alone. How do I reach out to him? How do we communicate so we understand each other. I feel lost.
