EVM: The machine to murder democracy 1. CIA cyber-security expert Steve Stigall had said in 2009 that the computers (EVMs) are being used to undermine democratic elections in developing nations. His remarks have received no news media attention until now. He categorically states that even the paper receipts cannot prevent EVM corruption. Stigall, has studied electronic systems in about three dozen countries. Not one EVM, anywhere in the world, is safe, according to this expert. As soon as you change your vote to an electron, it can be manipulated by anyone.mcclatchydc/2009/03/24/64711/most-electronic-voting-isnt-secure.html 2. EVMs are banned in USA, Germany, Ireland, Switzerland, Netherland; countries where democracy is functioning. They are being used in Venezuela, Macedonia, Ukraine and India; countries where the democracy is seriously compromised. 3. In India EVMs were introduced in 1981. All claims of Indian government and the ECI about the safety and security of Indian EVMs are wrong. Let us take the example of 2009 polls in India for which we have some documentation of the fraud. Dr. Anupam Saraph, Chief Information Officer for the city of Pune, and Prof. M D Nalapat, Vice-Chair of the Manipal Advanced Research Group, discovered files on the ECI website that showed election results days before votes were actually cast and counted. The team immediately alerted the National Informatics Centre (NIC) and the ECI. The NIC responded within an hour confirming the observation and itself alerting the ECI. There was no response from the ECI. 4. In 2009, eight of 543 constituencies in India had a Vote Verifier Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) system. However there were reports of serious EVM malfunction, with two machines reportedly transferring all votes cast to Congress. This shows that adding paper trail to the dangerous machine is not going to stop corruption. However no repoll was ordered in 2009. 5. Dr. J. Alex Halderman, Rop Gonggrijp and Hari K. Prasad actually hacked an Indian EVM in 2010 and proved that the claims of the government and ECI were wrong. The machines can be hacked even from a distance, with a mobile phone.indiaevm.org/qa.html saveindiandemocracy.wordpress/ 6. Now we are in 2014. No party is coming forward to raise the question of EVMs. Why is this great reluctance to address the fraud? The fear is that if the present election is revealed to have been a fraud, the public will start to question whether previous elections were equally fraudulent. People are at the verge of waking up and realizing that they did not in fact vote for the government which have been in power over them for decades. People are at the risk of realising that they no longer need to obey, trust and follow the governments dictates or to surrender their money and children to a bunch of unelected thugs.
