EXCELLENT article!! Short & to the point. A slideshow with 12 frames. For everyone out there: If a friend speaks to you about issues like this that are happening in a relationship they are in, don’t just blow them off, act like they are lying or exaggerating, or refuse to get involved. IF THEY TRUSTED YOU ENOUGH TO COME TO YOU & speak of these things, there’s OBVIOUSLY a problem that they are trying to deal with IN ISOLATION!! Be a REAL friend and LISTEN TO THEM...and at the very least, give them the emotional support they came to you to ask you for--by TRUSTING YOU, & humbling themselves by opening themselves up to you...at the risk of further rejection & isolation!! This is all VERY real—& something many people deal with in total isolation. The abuser is very good at making themselves look good & their victims look bad in everyone else’s eyes...so if you get that “cry for help”, take the person that comes to you SERIOUSLY!!! If you don’t want to be a REAL FRIEND to them, try putting yourself in their shoes & imagine how you would feel if you were going through the same thing, & everyone you trusted or believed in turned their back on you!! FYI—Don’t let the word “Schizophrenia” in the thumbnail image mislead you. I did not find this article by using it as a keyword. I simply clicked on a link titled “10 Signs You May Be in an Emotionally Abusive Relationship”. Apparently, that classification is where the Health Central website stores this article--but a person DOES NOT have to be diagnosed as “Schizophrenic” to know all of the “tricks of the trade” of an abuser. Instead of being part of a person’s problem when they come to you, resolve to be part of the solution. You may be in their shoes one day, & need them to be there for you.
