EXCERPT FROM THE BOOK: Food for the Soul: Compass for Sojourners (Section 15) Shhh! MOMMA IS SPEAKING! My son, when you are convinced about the woman you wish to marry and you both agree to get married, dont be caught up in the craze for a SUPER wedding (reception): a class wedding gown, an expensive ‘borrowed’ car, and the other baggage and superlative appendages associated with modern weddings. If you can meet the MINIMUM requirement that allows you to take your wife home with you and you have something to do that will guarantee some sort of regular income - enough to meet basic needs - go ahead with the wedding. Dont wait until you are ready enough to make your wedding the talk-of-the-town! The longer you wait, my son, the higher the stakes. By the way, no one ever has managed to meet all the demands of their fancy for a great wedding. The more the delay until the miraging perfection comes, the more unrealistic the years make your dream wedding. The best weddings in terms of fan-fare and expenditure are not necessarily the ones that go on to endure the shocks and quakes associated with living the Married Life. If a talk-of-the-town wedding hits the rock - God forbid (but they sometimes do), the news becomes a bigger talk-of-the-town. Son, the married life begins just after the fan-fare and sometimes way after but NEVER before it and while the wedding is a days or at the longest a weeks event, the Married Life is FOREVER. Decide which becomes your priority – A DREAM WEDDING or A DREAM MARRIED LIFE - and invest ALL in making it work. You have ears, I know, take heed, my son.
