EXCLUSIVE: How Tambuwal plotted with Atiku, Wamakko, others to break PDP LEGISREPORTS NG – Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Aminu Tambuwal barely dithered from joining the open and dramatic rebellion against the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as he was supposed to join former vice president Atiku Abukakar and seven other governors at a parallel event in Abuja yesterday. LEGISREPORTS gathered from top reliable sources that Speaker Tambuwal was indeed part of the plot to hit at the heart of the ruling party during the convention where different scenarios had been contrived after arrowheads of the breakaway faction concluded on the plan of action. It was gathered that Tambuwal could not join the breakaway faction yesterday because he had his hands tied by stepping unto the podium to address the Special National Convention as speaker of the House of Representatives. “It would have been out of order and somewhat derisive of himself to have joined the walk-out on the convention once he had stepped up to address the huge crowd where he promised to mobilize the House of Representatives to make laws to support and insist on good governanace and due process in the affairs of the federal government,” said a source knowledgeable on the involvement of the speaker. The source pleaded not to be identified in this report. Already, there are worries in the breakaway faction that the refusal of the speaker to join them at the parallel event at Yar’Adua Centre may be an indication that he may have developed cold feet in being part of breaking the PDP. Another source told LEGISREPORTS that the governor of Tambuwal’s home state of Sokoto, Mr. Aliyu Wamakko had assured Atiku and his colleague governors at a secret meeting before Saturday’s convention that the speaker would be part of the breakaway. Besides Atiku, Governors Murtala Nyarko (Adamawa), Musa Kwakwanso (Kano), Aliyu Babangida (Niger), Sule Lamido (Jigawa), Rotimi Amaechi (Rivers), Ahmed Abdultafatah (Kwara), Aliyu Wammako (Sokoto) and Saidu Dakingari (Kebbi), had yesterday walked out of the PDP convention alongside with some of their supporters to a parallel event where they announced a new faction of the party. LEGISREPORTS recalls that during Speaker Tambuwal very briefed speech at the convention, Tambuwal spoke like a man who didn’t want to be on the stand, his body language, spoken words if anything to go by suggests he was playing the get-me-out-of-here game. LEGISREPORTS had reported exclusively in recent times of Speaker Tambuwal’s romance with opposition political figures both within and outside the PDP. Attempts to reach the speaker on this story through his media aide proved abortive as telephone numbers rang did not go through.
