EXTENDED CHRISTMAS AND NEW YEAR’S HOLIDAYS I have the honour - TopicsExpress

EXTENDED CHRISTMAS AND NEW YEAR’S HOLIDAYS I have the honour to notify you that it has pleased His Excellency Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika, President of the Republic of Malawi, and Minister responsible for the Public Service, to grant the days between 23rd December, 2014 and 2nd January, 2015 as public holidays for civil servants. This means that civil servants will wind up their duties on 22nd December, 2014 and will return to work on 5th January, 2015. The granting of the public holidays for the said extended period of festivities does not mean a declaration of public holidays in Malawi. The extended holidays are meant to enable civil servants to celebrate the Christmas and New Year’s festivities with their families and allow them have adequate time to travel to and return from various destinations during the festive season, while giving them adequate time to rest. I wish to point out that while some civil servants will be on extended public holidays, officers whose institutions provide essential services such as hospitals, police, immigration and airports are requested to remain at work. These categories of officers shall be allowed to take their holiday in the course of the year in order not to disrupt essential services during the Christmas and New Year’s holidays. Controlling Officers for such institutions are advised to put in place proper arrangements for staff providing essential services to proceed on holidays at an appropriate and convenient time. Following the granting of the extended festive holidays, the Accountant General shall ensure that all civil servants are paid before and by 19th December, 2014. May I take this opportunity to wish all civil servants a Merry Christmas and Prosperous New Year. Please ensure safety of yourself and your family during this period always. George C. Mkondiwa CHIEF SECRETARY TO THE GOVERNMENT
