EXTRACTION - KEY TO DRYING Extraction is one of the four general principles of restorative drying. Physical extraction is the most critical of the principles: Thorough extraction not only contains migrating water, it greatly decreases drying time and reduces the possibility of furniture and rust stains. Most restoration companies use a standard wand to extract water, which does not remove water from carpet pad, resulting in the need for floating the carpet and often removing/replacing the pad. At Rainbow we use the Xtreme Xtractor with an attached vacuum pac, which makes it more powerful than even one of our truck mount systems, and is able to extract water from both carpet AND pad at once. Truckmount units must stay outside the structure, and every foot of hose deducts 1 cfm of vacuum power. When compared to truckmount units, the Vac Pac can apply all of its suction power right at the source of the water, losing no cfm due to 24, 50 or 100 ft. of hose.
