NOSF *******A VOLUNTEER WRITES: :***** I get knocked down...but I get up again...youre never gonna keep me down... Theres a certain pop anthem from my youth that I cant help but think of as Leroys theme song because its lyrics so aptly sum up his spirit and courage in the face of adversity. However life may push Leroy around, whatever physical disabilities he must overcome and however humans might betray, frighten or misjudge him, he simply refuses to be knocked down and you better believe that eventually there will be lemonade made from these lemons hes been handed! Tied up and abandoned by his former owner, Leroy arrived at the Care Center as a man of mystery and as it seems that no one has really gotten to know him during his short stay either so naturally I approach his den with some trepidation, expecting the worst. But Im happy to report that while he can be a little shy at first, this sleek silver cutie is a bubbly, affectionate, playful and seemingly dog-friendly guy with a winning smile and a wagging tail as happy as any other pup. Hes too scared to leave his kennel initially but a gentle hand, plenty of patience and some yummy treats finally lure him out and we make it all the way to the back door before Leroy decides thats enough adventuring for one day and heads back down the hall, eager to return to his safe haven. We stop for some photos and hes all over me in the best possible way, hugging and kissing up a storm, and when he falls down (something that happens occasionally due to his neurological issues) we both take advantage of the opportunity for a good ol fashioned belly rub session! Im not here to sugarcoat anything and Leroy very clearly does have medical issues but whether theyre permanent or temporary, we simply do not know. Do they stop him from running around and playing? No sir! Do they mean he cant enjoy toys or treats? Hoo boy, no! All his current condition means is that he needs a genuinely committed, experienced person to step up for him, someone who knows what theyre doing and what medical and/or mental health care this sweet boy will need in order to be the best Leroy he can be. Always on the go and well on his way to becoming the doggie BFF you never knew you were missing, this fun-loving sweetheart is taking applications for his new bestie right now so dont delay - step up for Leroy today and a lifetime of grateful hugs and kisses could soon be yours! https://facebook/Urgentdeathrowdogs/photos/a.611290788883804.1073741851.152876678058553/899205023425711/?type=1&theater Additional photos: https://facebook/Urgentdeathrowdogs/photos/a.897611313585082.1073743288.152876678058553/899205476758999/?type=3&theater https://facebook/Urgentdeathrowdogs/photos/a.897611313585082.1073743288.152876678058553/899205433425670/?type=3&theater https://facebook/Urgentdeathrowdogs/photos/a.897611313585082.1073743288.152876678058553/899205440092336/?type=3&theater https://facebook/Urgentdeathrowdogs/photos/a.897611313585082.1073743288.152876678058553/899205443425669/?type=3&theater Original thread: https://facebook/photo.php?fbid=897215116958035 For more information on adopting from the NYC AC&C, or to find a rescue to assist, please read the following: urgentpetsondeathrow.org/must-read/ If you are local to the Tri-State, New England, and the general Northeast United States area, and you are SERIOUS about adopting or fostering one of the dogs at NYC ACC, please read our MUST READ section for instructions, or email urgentassistancenyc@gmail.
