Eagles CHAN Rivals Spring Surprises Nigeria’s group rivals for next year’s Championship of African Nations (CHAN), South Africa, who are hosts of the competition for players based in their home countries on the continent, have shown that they are ready to spring surprises en route to a possible conquest of the contest on home soil. Super Eagles head coach, Stephen Okechukwu Keshi will take stock from the bags of surprises South Africa are lining up against the home-based Eagles come January, as Bafana Bafana coach, Gordon Igesund has sprung a couple of unexpected selections for his squad to face Morocco in an international friendly on October 11. Part of the shocks see Igesund include Ajax Cape Town youngster, Keagan Dolly for the first time, despite the 20-year-old having made just 11 PSL starts in his career, while England-based left-back, Kgosi Ntlhe, who has been dropped to the bench by third-tier Peterborough Unite, is also selected. BidVest Wits midfielder, Sibusiso Vilakazi will also raise a few eyebrows with his selection, as he has barely featured on the radar before, but there are welcome calls for SuperSport United goalkeeper Ronwen Williams, Poland-based Daylon Claasen and Ayanda Patosi, who plies his trade in Belgium at Lokeren. A big theme of the squad is youth, with the majority of the players under the age of 25, a sign that Igesund is building for the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, but, of the lot included to play against Morocco, only Dolly, Williams and Vilakazi are qualified to play for Bafana at CHAN 2014.
